Hickory Trail Hospital Adds New Pediatric Inpatient Unit for Children

DESOTO, Texas - (June 1, 2010) - Hickory Trail Hospital, a Psychiatric Solutions, Inc. facility, is pleased to announce the expansion of its youth services to include a dedicated pediatric inpatient unit for children ages 5-12. “Building Blocks” will allow the facility to provide treatment for an additional 10 children in a specialized inpatient environment.

While Hickory Trail has historically worked with children and adolescents ages 5-17, Building Blocks will allow the facility to provide services specific to children younger than age 13 in a dedicated unit and fills the demand from the local community for more specialized treatment.

“Our new Building Blocks pediatric unit is a unique program for our area,” said CEO Elicia Bunch. “We listened to our community and uncovered a great need for additional services for young children. This realization drove our team to create a unit completely separate from our adolescents so that the treatment can be more developmentally appropriate.”

Building Blocks utilizes an evidence-based curriculum of Trauma Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help children learn to cope with the difficult experiences they have encountered.  Similar to the facility’s adolescent program, Building Blocks offers inpatient stabilization, as well as outpatient day treatment, to provide a continuous path of treatment.
